The Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) currently has over 35 members of whom most are working in TR32 and some are associated with the project. The IRTG prepares these doctoral students to work independently in academia or industry. At the same time, it provides skills and tools for solving interdisciplinary scientific and applied problems.
This is achieved by combining project-specific and general training with structured guidance within the interdisciplinary framework of TR32. Emphasis is placed on the challenges that young scientists face in the professional world and that range from quantitative problem solving to operating competitively in the international scientific community or in industry. The qualification, organizational, and supervising concept are embedded in and synchronized with the research and teaching environment of the TR32 partners to ensure an internationally recognized education and degree.
Dedicated 3-person doctoral committees advise each doctoral student. They consist of members of different project clusters to stimulate cooperation and discussion between disciplines and across fields. Apart from monitoring progress and advising the students in scientific issues, the doctoral committee members help the students identify training needs.
