Project B1

Characterizing spatio-temporal patterns of net ecosystem carbon fluxes at field scale

inner membersinner publicationspixel blankinner project data

Research Area:
Carbon cycle, Modelling

project b1

The main goal of this project section is to identify and relate spatial and temporal structures of soil state variables like water content, soil temperature and soil nutrient content to carbon dioxide exchange fluxes in the soil-plant-atmosphere system at field scale. We aim at quantifying the sinks and sources of carbon dioxide at the soil-plant-atmosphere interface from laboratory and field experiments. Special emphasis will be placed on the combined application of a basic characterization of physic-chemical pattern of soil properties, regular soil and ecosystem carbon flux measurements and hydro-geophysical techniques to determine important state variables that determine spatial and temporal pattern of net ecosystem exchange of a mountainous grassland system.
